The Draft IRP published this week provides welcomed insight into South African government’s plans for new utility-scale energy projects to be built by 2030. While the draft clarifies the larger role solar PV, wind, and gas will likely play in the future energy mix (~67% by 2030), there are still a number of issues that need to be resolved and/or clarified before the plan can be finalized.
